With an advantage of having a 4,600km-long boundary with China, Laos and Cambodia, in 1996 Vietnam began to build the pilot Mong Cai border gate economic zone. An American and his New Life in Vietnam

The story of an American who settled down in the deep jungle of Quang Nam Province, South Vietnam, and his wish, “to be buried in this land after death”, astonishes many local people. Bui Quang Minh, Chairman of Tam Lanh Commune People's Committee in Phu Ninh District, Quang Nam Province said: "Robert Podunavac has lived here for four years. He is a kind man. Besides planting forest trees and raising poultry, he actively takes part in the local charitable work."

Lotus Flowers from Hanoi

Lotus flowers, although nurtured in mud, have been cherished as a rare species of flower by the Vietnamese people. From time immemorial, they have widely grown nationwide. Hanoi also has many precious lotus varieties, especially those from the West Lake area. Some parts of lotus flowers are used as medications or to scent tea, making it a tonic drink for a healthy physical and metal life.

Reproducing Royal Costumes

Over the past 20 years, the royal costumes from different dynasties in Vietnam displayed at exhibitions at home and abroad have attracted great attention. Artisan Vu Van Gioi, a farmer from Dong Cuu Village, Dung Tien Commune, Thuong Tin District of Hanoi , has spent many years re-producing royal costumes, including the king's attire.

A pilgrimage to Hai Ba Trung Festival

To celebrate the 1,970th anniversary of the Hai Ba Trung uprising (40 – 2010), the festival at Hai Ba Trung Temple is solemnly organized at the relic site of Hai Ba Trung Temple in Me Linh Commune, Me Linh District, Hanoi, the native place of the two Trung Sisters and where they proclaimed themselves Emperors and established the capital after defeating the foreign invaders.

A Concert of Bamboo, Wind and Water

Of Vo Trong Nghia achievements, he designed a 5-storey building in Japan which received great compliments from his Japanese colleagues. In addition he nurtured an idea to use specific materials and came up with building solutions that are environmentally friendly for the construction projects in Vietnam. After successfully completing his post-graduate study with a master diploma, Nghia was allowed to continue his study in Japan, but he decided to return to Vietnam to further his career.

Strange story
A man sleepless for more than 35 years

Stories about a Vietnamese man who has been sleepless for over 35 years have been widely published in the mass media. He is 65-year-old Thai Ngoc, now living in Que Trung Commune, Nong Son District in the central province of Quang Nam.

Fresh-water anabas from Set Lagoon is known as a special dish of Hanoi because the lagoon is revered as having the tastiest fish in the area, especially in autumn with the rice paddy begins to turn yellow. It is recorded that in the days when Vietnam had kings and lords, the anabas from Set Lagoon was served at the royal table.
