Located in the center of Moscow, the palace, a world heritage recognized by UNESCO in 1990, has two separate areas, one for state administration and the other for visitors.
The administrative area is the working place of the President, Senate and other important bodies of the Russian Federation and thus is not open to tourists.
The area for visitors is the Moscow Kremlin State Historical and Cultural Museum and Heritage Site which incorporates cathedrals, the palace, gardens and exhibition halls.

 The Grand Kremlin Palace looks over Red Square in Moscow.  The Kremlin was originally a military installation with solid fences and watch towers. The King Bell was cast from 1735-1737 with a weight of 200 tons and a height of six meters. This giant bell has never been rung as it was broken right after completion. The broken piece is about 11 tons.  The King Cannon was cast in 1586 under the command of Tsar Feodor I Ivanovich. The 39-ton King Cannon is over five meters high with a diameter of 1.2 meters. The Museum is open from 10 am to 5 pm. Visitors should buy tickets at a ticket counter in Aleksandrovsky Garden, near Troisky Bridge, which is open from 9:30 am to 4:30 pm. To reach the museum, one can take the metro, going through the stations of Aleksandrovsky, Boroviskaya, Lenin Library, Arbaskaya and Okhotny Ryad.
