Lionel Richie, Katy Perry and Luke Bryan were so impressed by the 19-year-old high school student’s performance,
comparing Tran to Kelly Clarkson who won American Idol’s first season in 2002.

Lionel Ritchie told the Vietnamese teen that she was in a zone of her own and that she should rule it.

Katy Perry said that Tran’s talent had the power to connect people, adding the Vietnamese teen demonstrated that music transcends language barriers, and that “I've never heard of a Vietnamese singer as good as you.”

Myra Tran, whose full name is Tran Minh Nhu, has become the first Vietnamese contestant at the show.

At 16, Tran won Season 2 of The X Factor Vietnam in 2016. She wanted to compete on American Idol to further establish her talent and follow her dream of becoming a singer in America.
