Vietnam competes at Chungju World Martial Arts Masterships

Vietnamese martial artists are taking part in the 2019 Chungju World Martial Arts Masterships, which began in Chungju city, North Chungcheong province of the Republic of Korea (RoK) on August 30.

The Vietnamese athletes will join various events in taekwondo, judo and traditional martial arts.

Head coach of the Vietnamese taekwondo team Nguyen Thanh Huy said all athletes are striving for the best performance. Five Vietnamese taekwondo martial artists, including medallist Chau Tuyet Van, are set to compete in events held from September 1-3.

A total of 2,414 athletes vie for 271 sets of medals in 20 sports at the tournament, including wrestling, taekwondo, aikido, ju-jitsu, Muay Thai, sambo, savate and wushu, among others.

Notably, the event also drew the participation of 369 top ranking martial artists of the world.

Among the 217 central-level nominees, 51 are women, accounting for 23.5%, 21 are from ethnic minority groups (9.68%), and 138 are incumbent deputies seeking re-election (63.59%). In terms of qualifications, 28 hold university degrees (12.9%), 189 have postgraduate degrees (87.09%), and none are below university level.
