Vientiane, July 20 (VNA) – The Lao Defence Ministry organised a grand meeting on July 20to mark the 55th anniversary of Vietnam-Laos diplomatic ties and 40 years of the Vietnam-Laos Treaty of Amity and Cooperation.

In his remark at the event in Vientiane, Lao Defence Minister Chansamone Chanyalath highlighted that the Lao people have been delighted to celebrate the diplomatic ties and the signing of the amity treaty with Vietnam.

The two peoples have maintained close bonds in their struggles for national liberation and construction, he said, adding that the fruitful relations were built based on good neighbourliness and demonstrated through the fights against common enemies.

Realising the significance of Vietnam-Laos special relations, the two sides inked the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation on July 18, 1977, affirming the consistent solidarity, cooperation and supports for each other in national construction and defence in each country. This is a crucial historic milestone in the relations between the two Parties and Governments, the minister said.

He went on to say that despite complex developments in the global situation in the past four decades, the Lao Party, Government and Defence have always treasured and promoted relations with Vietnam. Cooperation between the two nations has been deepened with effective cooperation mechanisms and sound collaboration in various fields, bringing practical benefits to the two peoples.
