G-DORM forum on global sci-tech education opens

The Hanoi University of Science and Technology (HUST) and Japan’s Niigata University co-organised in Hanoi on March 4 the G-DORM Forum on Global Sci-Tech Education through cooperation with universities in Mekong River countries.

It was part of their short-term student exchange programme from February 21- March 4.

Nozomu Tsuboi, deputy head of Niigata University’s Engineering Faculty, said the G-DORM programme has been underway since 2016, with companies in Niigata prefecture, and universities in the Mekong River region like Royal University of Phnom Penh, National University of Laos, Chulalongkorn University of Thailand and HUST taking part.

Human resources trained under the programme are expected to contribute to economic growth in ASEAN+3 and establish a tertiary education framework in Asia.

The programme in Hanoi involve 12 students from HUST and 16 students from Niigata University, who worked in groups to learn about operations of two Japanese enterprises in Vietnam, vision and challenges facing them when expanding abroad.

Experts from HUST and Niigata University presented in-depth studies on science-tech education amid globalisation.

Participating students gave suggestions about vision for foreign companies in Vietnam, opportunities and challenges in business expansion, among others.
