AFF HDBank Futsal Championship 2017 kicks off

HCM City, October 28 (VNA) – The ASEAN Football Federation HDBank Futsal Championship 2017 officially kicked off in Ho Chi Minh City on October 27. 

This is also the qualifying round for the 2018 AFC Futsal Championship, choosing four top teams for the games. The tournament is a chance for participants to gear up for the World Futsal World Cup 2019. 

The AFF HDBank Futsal Championship 2017 draws nine teams from Southeast Asian countries competing in two groups. The Vietnamese team is in Group A with those from the Philippines, Indonesia, Brunei and Myanmar. Meanwhile, Group B consists of Thailand, Laos, Malaysia and Timor Leste. 

Following the opening ceremony, the Vietnamese team played with the Philippines. The host team is scheduled to to face with Indonesia, Brunei and Myanmar from October 28-30. 

On the occasion, the organising board handed over 300 million VND to representatives of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee to support flood victims in the central region. 

Earlier on October 26, some first matches of the tournament took place. Notably, Myanmar won Brunei 13-0, Thailand won Laos 14-0, and Indonesia won the Philippines 21-0.
