Over the years Vietnam National Women’s Football Team affirmed its position in the region with four gold medals at SEA Games 21, 22, 23 and 25. This achievement was partly attributed to the contribution of striker Doan Thi Kim Chi who has been awarded “Vietnam’s Golden Ball” title for four times and is considered the “Queen” of the Vietnamese women’s football.
Graduating from high school in 1997, Kim Chi attended Ho Chi Minh City University of Physical Education and Sports and trained at the athletics faculty. However, she has a great passion for football and often played football with her male friends after school time. Her talent was then discovered by Coach Tran Anh Tuan (at present Director of Sports and Physical Training Centre, District 1, Ho Chi Minh City) and became a member of Ho Chi Minh City Women’s Football Team and Vietnam National Women’s Football Team.”

Kim Chi has a good physical strength and can compete aggressively. At SEA Games 25 held in Laos in 2009, in a fierce match with Myanmar, in the 39th minute she fell and suffered a cut to her head. Although suffering a serious injury, Kim Chi strived to continue competing, eventually scoring a goal.
The native of Ben Tre Province is a beautiful, tanned player and dominates in the sport, and yet graceful and feminine. She said that football is not only her passion but also part of her life so she puts everything she has into every game. Kim Chi’s dedication to the game has lead to Vietnam National Women’s Football Team winning the gold medal at the most recent SEA Games, held in Laos.
Thanks to her talent and devotion at SEA Games 25, in 2010 Kim Chi was awarded the “Golden Ball” title for the 4th times (she received the title in 2004, 2005 and 2007).
At present Kim Chi competes for the Ho Chi Minh City Women’s Football Team and she is an important factor of Vietnam National Football Women’s Team in its strategy to protect the “throne” at SEA Games 26 to be held in Indonesia in 2011.
