In the opening ceremony entitled “Glistening Ho Guom” to celebrate the 1,000th anniversary of Thang Long – Hanoi, the Ao dai (traditional long dress) fashion show left a long-lasting impression on everyone in attendance and TV viewers.
The ever-longest catwalk was set on The Huc Bridge at Ho Guom that looked very splendid and sparkling with colourful flags, candles and flowers. About 100 models and Vietnamese beauties, such as Ngo Phuong Lan, Ngoc Oanh, Dang Thuy Trang, Tran Thi Quynh, participated in the show and modeled 600 Ao dai modes.
The traditional long dress helps highlight the elegance and charm of Vietnamese women and it is considered the cultural symbol of the Vietnamese nation. Therefore, all the Ao dai modes at the show were designed with typical styles of the northern, central and southern regions of Vietnam. The Ao dai modes of the north were stylized with elegant long flaps of Trang An people with the pink colour of peach blossom while those of the central region were typically violet Ao dai of the Hue people and the Nam Phuong Queen. The Ao dai collection of the south reflected the boisterous and modern life of Ho Chi Minh City with the yellow colour of apricots.
The show presented collections of designer Ngan An with names reminding of old Hanoi, such as “Memory”, “Sacred dragon feature” “Hanoi streets”, “Colour of time” “Flower of land”, etc., and collection entitled the four seasons of spring, summer, autumn and winter of designer Duc Hung and many other famous Vietnamese designers.
Sharing emotions when beholding the beauty of Ao dai, designer Anh Thu said: “When living with these moments, I just feel that it is significant. The Ao dai is a national pride, linking the past with present and future. Girls in Ao dai look more graceful and beautiful. More particularly, the show was the gathering of Ao dai styles of three regions in the country, coming together for the 1,000th anniversary of Thang Long – Hanoi.
