Party chief meets Vietnamese community in China

Beijing, April 8 (VNA) – Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong wished the Vietnamese people in China would continually enhance bilateral friendship while meeting their representatives in Beijing on April 8 as part of his official visit to China.

The Party leader affirmed that despite ups and downs at certain times, the time-honoured friendship, fostered by generations of leaders, remains the main stream in Vietnam-China relationship.

Having grown into the comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership, the bilateral ties, however, has still dealt with the dispute over sea and island sovereignty as the largest unaddressed issue, he said.

The Party chief told overseas Vietnamese that his China visit looks to consolidate political trust, strengthen friendship, boost all-round cooperation, as well as accelerating negotiations towards the reasonable settlement of disputes at sea in order to make the bilateral ties grow healthily and stably in the time to come.

Turning to the Vietnamese Embassy’s accomplishments, he affirmed that the embassy plays an important role in fostering the ties, as well as its duty of participating in addressing differences between the two nations and protecting the national sovereignty and the interests of the nation and the Vietnamese community in China.

The embassy should promote its advisory performance further for stronger growth of bilateral ties, he said.
