ASEAN condemns DPRK nuclear test

Hanoi, January 8 (VNA) – The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) issued a statement on January 8 to condemn the fourth nuclear test by the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK).

In the statement, ASEAN Foreign Ministers said the nuclear test violates the relevant resolutions of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC).

ASEAN reaffirms the importance of peace and security on the Korean Peninsula and reiterates its full support for the denuclearisation of the peninsula in a peaceful manner.

The bloc urged the DPRK to comply with all the relevant UNSC resolutions and called on all parties concerned to exert joint efforts to maintain peace and security in the region.

It also appealed for facilitating the early resumption of the Six-Party Talks to pave the way for maintaining and reinforcing peace, security and stability in the region and the world.
