VUFO seeks to improve people-to-people diplomacy

The Vietnam Union of Friendship Organisations (VUFO) held a seminar in Hanoi on December 28 to look into activities of its central-level chapters in 2017.

Speaking at the event, VUFO Vice President and General Secretary Don Tuan Phong said the seminar aims to acquire feedback to improve the efficiency of people-to-people diplomacy in the near future.

He asked VUFO chapters to promote collaboration and share experience towards creating a collective power.

In 2017, positive results were seen in people-to-people diplomacy, notably holding a ceremony to honour Lao students, candle-lighting in Vietnam – Laos international martyrs’ cemetery, the ninth Vietnam-China People’s Forum, the ninth Vietnam – India People’s Friendship Festival in New Delhi, a series of celebrations for the 50th founding anniversary of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).

A representative from the Vietnam – Cambodia Friendship Association (VCFA) suggested that each VCFA member from the grassroots to central level must fully grasp the Party’s diplomatic guidelines and the association’s operation purpose.

Participants proposed stepping up administrative reform, connecting with overseas Vietnamese to attract resources, and boosting collaboration to build an efficient operation plan for the VUFO.
