Vietnamese wins int’l climate photo contest

A photo entitled “Ngoi nha trong bao” (The house in the Storm) by Luong Thanh Hai from Vietnam’s meteorological and hydrological agency has won first prize at a photo competition of the Typhoon Committee (TC).

The information was announced at the closing event for the 51st TC Annual Session, which took place from February 26 to March 1 in Guangzhou, China.

The photo contest, themed ‘Weather and Climate in Typhoon Committee Region’, drew participants from 14 countries and territories which are members of the TC.

Earlier, The house in the Storm was selected from one of more than 1,000 works and won the photo contest themed ‘People and nature in the context of climate change for sustainable development’ launched by the National Hydro-meteorological Service (NHS) under the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment in collaboration with Vietnam Pictorial of the Vietnam News Agency.

The contest formed part of the activities marking the 50th anniversary of the UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP)/World Meteorological Organisation (WMO) Typhoon Committee and the 50th session of the committee which was held in Vietnam last year.
