Vietnamese players selected in Fox Sport’s all-star team

Hanoi, December 19 (VNA) - Fox Sport Asia has selected the Team of the Tournament after the end of the AFF Suzuki Cup, with two Vietnamese in the line-up.

Defender Vu Van Thanh, who made headlines and was praised during the one-month event, secured a spot.

Fox said Thanh, 20, was certainly a player for the future, after his impressive performances. He was solid in defence, but also had the ability to be a danger up front and could even play as a winger. Despite his forward forays, he was rarely caught out of position.

The left-back scored two goals for Vietnam. One was in a match against Cambodia in the group round, while another was in the semi-finals versus Indonesia.

The second Vietnamese selected by Fox was striker Le Cong Vinh, who retired from football after the tournament.

In its article, Fox said although Vietnam lost out in the semi-finals, the 31-year-old Vinh still did enough to justify his being selected, scoring two goals during the group stage, while leading the frontline with intelligence.

His all-round play and ability to bring his teammates into the action proved invaluable.

The Fox list also includes six Thai players, including midfielder Chanathip Songkrasin, who is the Cup’s MVP, best scorer Teerasil Dangda, and three Indonesian players --  defender Fachrudin Aryato, midfielder Stefano Lilipaly and forward Boaz Salossa.

Thailand won the Cup for the fifth time, beating Indonesia 3-2 after two legs of the final.

Vietnam shared third place with Myanmar, and each team received 50,000 VND.
