Vietnamese players advance in Nepal badminton tourney

Hanoi, December 15 (VNA) – No.1 seed Nguyen Thuy Linh advanced to the quarter-finals of the Nepal International Series badminton tournament’s women’s singles in Kathmandu on December 14.

Her rival Poonam Gurung of the host country withdrew minutes before the match.

LInh will play Sichhya Shrestha, also of Nepal, on December 15.

Her teammates Tran Thi Phuong Thuy also earned a berth in the last-eight after beating Maisa Fathuhulla Ismail of Moldova 21-15, 21-10. She will meet Nepalese Megha Chand next.

On the men’s side, Vietnam has two representatives in the quarter-finals.

No.6 seed Pham Cao Cuong will play Mohammad Salman Khan of Bangladesh while No. 7 Le Duc Phat faces Tushar Krishna Roy also from Bangladesh.
