Vietnamese athlete wins gold at Asian Indoor Athletics Champs

Bui Thi Thu Thao brought home a gold medal in the eighth Asian Indoor Athletics Championship, which has recently wrapped up at the Aftab-e Enqhelab Stadium in Tehran, Iran.

The 25-year-old Thao won the women’s long jump with 6.20m. Nayana James of India came second with 6.08m, while Neena Varakil of India took the bronze with 6.06m.

Earlier, Thao won a bronze medal in the women’s triple jump.

Besides Thao, Nguyen Thi Oanh also brought home a bronze in the women’s 3,000m category, with a time of 9 min 48.48 sec.

Last year, Thao won a gold in the long jump at the Asian championship, two others at the Asian Grand Prix and one title at the Southeast Asian Games.

Vietnam sent three athletes to compete in the Asian event.

Among the ballots used at the congress were three featuring posters of President Ho Chi Minh and one bearing an image depicting the Vietnamese people engaged in production during the period of resistance against foreign aggression. The latter also carried the inscriptions “80th Anniversary of Vietnam’s National Day” and “33rd National Congress of the PCU".
