Vietnam to intensify regional transport connectivity

Hanoi, May 11 (VNA)- The Prime Minister has approved a master plan to strengthen transport connectivity in ASEAN through 2020.

The plan aims to realise Vietnam’s transport commitments to ASEAN while making the best use of the connectivity within the bloc to stimulate the country’s socio-economic development and enhance its international competitiveness.

It has introduced several solutions including increasing investment in transport infrastructure, promoting cross-border transportation and enhancing workforce development.

In an attempt to improve road traffic service quality, enterprises have been encouraged to renovate and modernise road traffic vehicles while road quality should be ensured to comply with ASEAN member countries’ road traffic standards.

The project also proposes solutions to enhance the competitive competency of the sea transportation and aviation industries to ably join the ASEAN market and other bigger inter-regional markets such as the ASEAN-EU, ASEAN-China, and ASEAN-India.

The plan will also promote railway tourism, linking railways to land, air and sea tourism while enhancing travel service quality and reform administrative procedures for passengers.
