Vietnam strengthens partnership with Brazil

Vietnamese Ambassador Do Ba Khoa recently paid a courtesy call to Brazilian Vice President Hamilton Mourao as part of activities to build partnership with Brazil’s new government.

Ambassador Khoa extended congratulations from Vietnamese Vice President Dang Thi Ngoc Thinh to Vice President Hamilton Mourao on Mourao’s new position.

He briefed his host on Vietnam’s achievements during the reform process as well as new progress in the comprehensive partnership between the two countries, especially in building the legal framework for their comprehensive partnership, maintaining the efficiency of cooperation mechanisms and promoting mutual support at international organisations, as well as in bilateral trade.

The diplomat suggested the government of Brazil soon recognise Vietnam’s market economy regulations.

Brazil should work with Vietnam to consider negotiations for a bilateral free trade agreement and a similar deal between Vietnam and the Common Market of the South (Mercosur), he proposed.

Ambassador Khoa reaffirmed the desire and determination of Vietnamese leaders and the Government to work with the new administration of Brazil to deepen the partnership between the two countries.

Vietnam hopes to welcome Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro and Vice President Hamilton Mourao to the country soon, he stated.

For his part, Vice President Hamilton Mourao said as a military officer, he admires the Vietnamese people’s struggle for independence and national reunification.

He and the Brazilian government always keep a close watch on and respects the achievements that Vietnam has gained in national construction and development as well as regional and international integration.

The Brazilian Vice President expressed his pleasure at steps development in bilateral ties, affirming that the government of Brazil will work closely with Vietnam to strengthen ties, especially in economic and trade affiliation.

He also expressed his hope to visit Vietnam in the near future.
