Vietnam shines at 2019 World Para Athletics Grand Prix in China

Vietnamese athletes grabbed six gold, eight silver and eight bronze medals at the 2019 World Para Athletics Grand Prix Series, which was held in Beijing, China, from May 10 to 12, Nhan Dan online reported.

Among the medallists, Truong Bich Van established herself as the most prominent athlete at the event by winning two gold medals in the women’s discus and shot put F56 categories, and one bronze in the women’s javelin F56.

Nguyen Manh Hung performed brilliantly as he bagged one gold medal in the men’s javelin F57, one silver in the men’s discus F57, and one bronze in the men’s shot put F57.

The three remaining gold medals were won by Kieu Minh Trung in the men’s javelin F55, Tran Van Nguyen in the men’s javelin F40, and Nguyen Thi Hai in the women’s javelin F57.

The Vietnamese delegation placed third in the overall rankings.

The 2019 World Para Athletics Grand Prix in China is among a series of nine events taking place around the world between February and August this year, ahead of the World Para Athletics Championships in November. Following China, the series next heads to Arizona in the United States and Nottwil in Switzerland later this month.

The events are a test for the participating athletes to qualify for the 2019 World Para Athletics Championships in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, and the 2020 Paralympic Games in Tokyo, Japan.
