Vietnam put feet forward at ASEAN futsal semi-finals

Hanoi, September 23 (VNA) – Vietnam entered the semi-final round of the ASEAN Football Federation Futsal Championship following their third win in Malaysia on September 22.

Vietnam blasted Laos, 18-0, to make the final four following a 6-1 win over Myanmar and an 11-1 victory against the Philippines.

Phung Trong Luan began with a brace in the second and 10th minutes, followed by three hattricks from Tran Thai Huy, Tran Long Vu and Pham Duc Hoa.

Ly Khanh Hung and Ngo Ngoc Son had their doubles while the other goals came from Tran Van Vu, Le Quoc Nam and Pham Thanh Dat.

Vietnam next plays Thailand in the last group B round match at the Melawati Stadium on September 23.

For the first 10 minutes of their match against the Philippines, Vietnam found it tough. But Phung Trong Luan weaved his way through the middle and slammed in the goal that put Vietnam ahead in the 10th minute.

Four minutes later, Tran Thai Huy knocked in the second goal to give Vietnam a 2-0 lead at the break.

Vietnam exploded in the second half, netting another nine goals against a single goal by Filipino Robert Omblero Canedo. In the last minute, Jovanie Saludares Simpron converted on a penalty for the Philippines.

The event, which attracted the participation of 10 countries, will last until September 28.

Vietnam finished third at the same event last year.
