Vietnam in fifth place at Asian Volleyball Confederation Cup

Vietnam national women’s volleyball team gained the fifth place at the sixth Asian Volleyball Confederation Cup for Women after trouncing the Republic of Korea (RoK) 3-0 at Chartchai Hall, Thailand on September 23.

The team pulled off a sensational straight-set 25-22, 25-10 and 25-15 victory over young Korean ladies.

Tran Thanh Thuy led Vietnam with 16 points, including 13 kills from 27 attempts, one block and two aces. Meanwhile, Ha Hyejin chipped in with 12 points for the RoK including nine attacks from 28 attempts.

For Vietnam, the result was a better performance than the 7th position they had achieved at the previous event two years ago in Vinh Phuc province. Meanwhile, the Korean team ranked 6th place at this year’s event, and 8th place in Vietnam in 2016.

Earlier, Vietnam succumbed to the semi-final round as the team lost to Japan 1-3 on September 19. They then had to compete for the rankings from 5th to 10th with such teams as the RoK, Kazakhstan, Australia, Iran and the Philippines.

The Vietnamese volleyball female players also had a brilliant performance at recent 18th Asian Games in Indonesia, ranking 6th place.
