Vietnam congratulates new Myanmar President

President Tran Dai Quang and Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc have cabled messages of congratulations to President of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar Win Myint on his election.

He used to work as a lawyer. In 2012, U Win Myint, a member of the National League for Democracy (NLD), was elected as a parliament member to the House of Representatives.

He became Speaker of the House of Representatives in 2016.

The presidential run was hosted by the Union Parliament to fill the presidency vacancy left by U Htin Kyaw, who announced resignation last week, citing health as reason.
