Vietnam beats Singapore, takes Sudirman Cup’s Group 2

Hanoi, May 27 (VNA) - Vietnam defeated Singapore to win gold in Group 2 of the Sudirman Cup, also known as the World Badminton Team Championships, in Australia on May 26.

After winning Group 2A, Vietnam beat Singapore, winner of Group 2B, 3-1 at the Gold Coast’s Carrara Sports & Leisure Centre .

The Vietnamese players won in the men’s and women’s singles matches, represented by husband and wife Nguyen Tien Minh and Vu Thi Trang.

Their teammates triumphed in the mixed doubles, when Do Tuan Duc and Pham Nhu Thao beat Danny Bawa Chrisnanta and Wong Jia Ying Crystal 21-18, 23-21.

Earlier, Vietnam won all three matches in Group 2A, beating New Zealand, Canada and Scotland.

Vietnam will advance to the Group 1 next year.
