Vietnam – China Promote Cooperation for Peace and Development

State President Tran Dai Quang paid a state-level visit to China and attended the high-level forum on the Belt and Road Initiative from May 11-15, 2017. The visit contributes to promote the comprehensive strategic partnership between Vietnam and China; and affirmed Vietnam’s willingness and role in expanding international cooperation for peace and development in the region and in the world. 
Boost economic cooperation and patiently settle disputes 

During the State-level visit to China, State President Tran Dai Quang and Chinese leaders reached an important common awareness of orientations and measures to strengthen political trust, reinforce friendship, promote cooperation and maintain peace in a healthy and sustainable way.

The two sides discussed and reached consensus on practical measures to foster the a healthy and sustainable cooperation of economics. China will evaluate Vietnamese milk and dairy products’ standards while accelerating legal procedures to import some Vietnamese fruits in addition to maintaining trade links in agriculture, forestry and fishery products, and facilitating the opening of Vietnamese trade promotion offices in China. Vietnam wants Chinese businesses to implement hi-tech and environmentally friendly investment projects in Vietnam which are suitable for Vietnam’s demand and strategy on sustainable development.

The two sides agreed to step up affiliation in agriculture, environment, science, technology, and transport; protect and use cross-border water resources sustainably and manage and inspect nuclear safety.

Regarding the East Sea issue, they discussed deeply, sincerely and frankly issues at sea, agreeing to abide by the important perception reached by Party and State leaders and the “Agreement on They discussed basic principles guiding the settlement of issues at sea between Vietnam and China” and controlling marine disputes without carrying out actions to complicate the situation and expand disputes. Both sides want to manage disputes at sea in a practical manner and will take no action that could complicate and expand disputes.  They also want to maintain peace and stability in the East Sea and implement comprehensively and efficiently the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea (DOC) and soon build a Code of Conduct in the East Sea (COC). 
 
Equal and win-win cooperation 

Attending the high-level forum on the Belt and Road Initiative, State President Tran Dai Quang said that Vietnam welcomes regional economic connectivity initiatives, including the “Belt and Road Initiative”. The nation is willing to cooperate with China and other countries in research, establishment and implementation on common projects and contribute to implementing the UN Sustainable Development Goals through 2030.

Sharing his standpoint of cooperation within the framework of the high-level forum on the Belt and Road Initiative, the Vietnamese leader emphasised that the sustainable development between nations should be based on the principles of consent, equality, voluntariness, transparency, openness, mutual respect, mutual benefit and compliance with the UN charter and international law. Vietnam’s contributions were highly appreciated and there were many ideas mentioned in the joint statement.

On the occasion, State President Tran Dai Quang had many bilateral meeting with leaders of nations to discuss measures to promote further cooperation. Many leaders applauded and supported Vietnam to successfully organise the APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting 2017.
 



The high-level forum on the Belt and Road Initiative took place on May 14-15, 2017 in Beijing, China with the participation of about 1,200 delegates from 100 nations, international organisations and enterprises.
