Attending the festival, Vice President Dang Thi Ngoc Thinh expressed her belief that the event will contribute to fulfilling the country’s maritime strategy to 2020 with a vision to 2030, making Vietnam a strong sea-based economy.
The vice president lauded the support given by the Vietnam Farmers’ Association and its local chapters to fishermen, officers and soldiers, thus helping them overcome all difficulties to maintain offshore fishing and firmly protect the fatherland’s sovereignty over seas and islands.
She noted that Vietnam holds great potential in maritime economic development, with a long coastline, almost 3,000 islands and an exclusive economic zone spanning more than 1 million square kilometers.
Vice President Thinh called for stronger solidarity and experience sharing among coastal localities and fishermen for effective offshore fishing.
She also asked the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and the Vietnam Farmers’ Association to seek new measures to encourage fishermen to actively respond to emulation movements to expand fishing activities.
On this occasion, the vice president presented gifts to the Party Organisation, administration and people of Cat Hai district as well as a number of policy beneficiary families in the localities. She also visited the border station of Cat Ba island and several local fishermen.
