VFF leader extends greetings on Buddha’s birthday

Ho Chi Minh City, May 27 (VNA)- President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF) Central Committee Nguyen Thien Nhan paid a visit to the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS) in Ho Chi Minh City on May 27 on the occasion of Buddha’s 2559th birthday.

The VFF leader praised the contributions made by Buddhist dignitaries and followers to socio-economic development and the VFF’s campaigns, such as environmental protection, health care for the poor and HIV/AIDS prevention.

Nguyen Thien Nhan expressed his hope that the Chairman of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha Executive Council, Most Venerable Thich Thien Nhon, and other VBS’s leaders will continue with efforts to bolster national solidarity and the relationship between Buddhism and other religions in Vietnam.

He added the VBS should have more supporting programmes for its dignitaries and followers in mountainous and remote areas as well as overseas.

On his part, the Most Venerable Thich Thien Nhon said the VBS will join in implementing the VFF’s programmes in a view to consolidating and strengthening the national great solidarity.
