Van Don int’l airport to be operational next March

Hanoi, July 5 (VNA) – Van Don International Airport in the northern province of Quang Ninh, the first airport invested in by a private business in Vietnam, is scheduled to be operational in late March 2018. 

The airport, based in Van Don Island, was invested with nearly 7.5 trillion VND (330 million USD) by property developer Sun Group, Ha Noi Moi daily reported. 

It is designed to serve 2 million passengers a year by 2020 and will be expanded to serve 5 million passengers annually by 2030 if demand for travel through the airport increases. 

The airport, a key project in Van Don Economic Zone, can also accommodate military aircraft. 

It is expected to help attract investment and tourists to Van Don Island and Ha Long Bay.
