US-DPRK Summit 2019: DRPK media highlights Kim’s trip to Vietnam

Rodong Sinmun, the official newspaper of the DPRK’s Workers’ Party of Korea, continued to run stories on February 26 on DPRK leader Kim Jong-un’s trip to Vietnam for his second summit with US President Donald Trump.

The newspaper said that Kim arrived in Vietnam’s border province of Lang Son after more than 60 hours of travelling by train all the way from Pyongyang through China. He then finished the last stretch to Hanoi by car for the upcoming meeting with Trump on February 27.

In an editorial on its front page, Rodong Sinmun said that the whole country has been joyful since hearing their leader left for Hanoi to attend the DPRK-USA Hanoi Summit Vietnam. It laid stressed on Kim’s efforts to prove his country’s value and position in the international community.

DPRK media first reported on their leader’s visit to Vietnam on February 24, with the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) reporting that Kim started off on his special train on February 23, departing from Pyongyang to reach Hanoi for the summit with Trump and to pay an official friendship visit to Vietnam.

The second DPRK-USA summit will take place on February 27-28, following the first summit in Singapore in June last year, during which both leaders agreed on the DPRK’s denuclearisation on the Korean peninsula in exchange for security assurance from the US.

This time round, they are expected to deal with specific steps in the DPRK’s denuclearisation measures as well as the US’ s corresponding moves such as loosening of economic sanctions against the DPRK.
