Transport firms gear up for holiday

The price of tickets for routes from Mien Dong Coach Station to Ba Ria-Vung Tau, Binh Duong, Binh Phuoc and Dong Nai provinces will surge by around 30 percent during the holidays, Nguyen Hoang Huy, deputy director of Mien Dong Coach Station in HCM City, told Giao Thong (Transport) newspaper.

Fares of coaches for long trips from Mien Dong Coach Station to the Central Highlands and central provinces such as Gia Lai, Kon Tum, Binh Thuan and Quang Ngai will rise by around 40 percent, Huy said.

The number of passengers is expected to increase by 3 percent compared to the same period last year, he said.

The price of buses for long trips from HCM City to the Cuu Long (Mekong) Delta provinces will surge by around 40 percent from April 29-30.

The number of passengers could reach 56,000-58,000 per day during the holiday, said Tran Van Phuong, deputy director of Mien Tay Coach Station in HCM City.

More than 50 standby coaches are available at the station to serve an unexpected surge in the number of passengers, Phuong said.

Coach operators have also prepared to allocate sufficient vehicles for travel demand during the long holiday, he said.

The Hanoi Coach Station Management Company said it planned to run an additional 410 trips from April 28-29, mostly from Hanoi to Phu Tho, Quang Ninh, Thanh Hoa, Thai Binh, Nam Dinh, Lao Cai, Son La and Dien Bien provinces.

The Hanoi Railway Joint Stock Company will operate an additional 30 passenger trains on Hanoi- Lao Cai, Hanoi - Hai Phong and routes from Hanoi to the southern region during the holiday.

The number of trains departing from Saigon to Phan Thiet, Nha Trang and Quy Nhon and in the reverse direction will increase by 29 during the holiday, according to the Saigon Railway Joint Stock Company.

Most railway tickets for short trips have sold out, while there are still a lot of tickets for long trips, the company said.

Vietnam Airlines will add 175 flights on eight domestic routes from April 27 to May 3.

The number of flights from Hanoi/HCM City to Da Nang will increase by more than 100, from Hanoi/ HCM City to Phu Quoc by 40 and Hanoi/ HCM City-Nha Trang by 18.

An additional 1,350 bus trips on 17 routes in HCM City will serve rising demand of commuters during the holiday, according to the city’s Management and Operation Centre for Public Transport.

Buses on routes such as University of Science and Technology-The National University, Ben Thanh-The International University and Ben Thanh-Ton Duc Thang University will not run during the holiday.

Road construction projects will be halted on Liberation Day and May Day, from April 30 to May 1, according to the city’s Department of Transport.
