Weightlifter wins three golds at Asian tourney

Weightlifter Vuong Thi Huyen on April 21 earned three gold medals at the ongoing 2019 Asian Weightlifting Championships in Ningbo, China.

She lifted 73 kg in the snatch and 92 kg in the jerk, totalling 165 kg to claim the golds of snatch, jerk and total in women’s 45kg division.

Meanwhile, Khong My Phuong bagged a bronze medal as she lifted 70 kg in the snatch and ranked fourth with a total of 157 kg.

Earlier on April 20, Thach Kim Tuan seized a bronze medal after a snatch of 136 kg in men’s 61 kg division.

The weightlifting tournament, taking place from April 20 to 28, is drawing the participation of 278 athletes from 28 nations and regions. It is among sporting events designed for those to earn points and book spots at the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games.
