Vietnamese striker tops best goal poll for Asian Cup’s Round of 16

The goal scored by Vietnamese striker Nguyen Cong Phuong at the 51st minute in the Vietnam – Jordan match has been selected as the best goal of the AFC Asian Cup 2019’s round of 16.

As announced by the tourney’s organiser on January 26, in a four-day poll, Phuong’s goal received 217,698 votes or 74 percent of the total votes, a landslide win compared to five other candidates.

Phuong’s goal, which he scored off his teammate Nguyen Trong Hoang’s splendid cross from the right wing, helped Vietnam equalised with Jordan in the game, and later emerged “victorious” from a penalty shoot-out, thus becoming the first team to reach the tourney’s quarter-finals.

The goal by Mirlan Murzaev (Kyrgyzstan) into the host UAE’s net, came second in the survey with 59,519 votes or 20 percent of the total.

In the third place was Baha Abdelrahman (Jordan)’s goal in the match against Vietnam, which obtained 13,029 votes or 4 percent of the total.

Earlier, Vietnamese midfielder Nguyen Quang Hai surpassed nine other candidates to win the highest votes of 465,629 (45 percent) for the best goal of the Asian Cup 2019’s group stage.-VNA/VNP
