Vietnamese, Portuguese trade unions enhance ties

Hanoi, July 6 (VNA) – Chairman of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labour (VGCL) Dang Ngoc Tung hosted a reception for General Secretary of the General Confederation of the Portuguese Workers Armenio Carlos in Hanoi on July 6.

During the meeting, the two sides exchanged information on activities of each country’s trade unions in recent years while affirming to further friendship and cooperation.

The VGCL has about 8.5 million members and nearly 120,000 chapters, Tung said, adding that it has focused on the development of members, especially in in the non-State economic sector.

Armenio Carlos said the General Confederation of the Portuguese Workers is the biggest trade unions in the country with nearly 750,000 members in 14 member chapters.

The VGCL Chairman expressed his belief that friendship and cooperation between the two sides will be deepened through the exchange of information and mutual support at international forums.
