Vietnam top SEA region rankings

Vietnam’s national men’s football team still hold the No 1 spot in the Southeast Asian region, according to FIFA’s January ranking release.

Vietnam are now world No 112, with 298 points to lead the region, followed by the Philippines, world No 123 and Thailand, world No 129.

Asia’s top five teams are Iran, world No 34, Australia (No 36), Japan (No 56), the Republic of Korea (No 59) and Saudi Arabia (No 65). Vietnam are in 16th place.

The world’s top 10 remained unchanged. Germany sat atop the world rankings, followed by Brazil and Portugal.

The time when President Ho Chi Minh was in the Soviet Union (now Russia) provided him with invaluable experience in mass mobilisation and political organisation that later became instrumental in Vietnam’s revolutionary struggle, according to Dr Anatoly Sokolov from the Oriental Research Institute under the Russian Academy of Sciences.
