Vietnam, Russia foster economic bond

Moscow, September 6 (VNA) - T he 17th session of the Vietnam-Russia Inter-Governmental Committee on Economic-Trade and Scientific-Technological Cooperation opened in Vladivostok on September 5.

On the occasion, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Igor Shuvalov, who is also head of the Russian sub-committee, welcomed his Vietnamese counterpart, Hoang Trung Hai, who led the Vietnamese delegation to the three-day session.

They underlined the significance of the session, which is expected to further step up traditional cooperation between the two countries and considered a preparation for Vietnamese Party Secretary General Nguyen Phu Trong’s official visit to Russia in late 2014.

The host and guest expressed their pleasure with the increasing economic ties between the two countries, as two–way trade hit 2.758 billion USD in 2013, up 12.6 percent against the previous year.

They agreed to continue closely working so as to boost their links further, especially agro-forestry-agriculture export and import.

During their meeting, the two Deputy PMs discussed issues relating to the exchange of high-raking visits of the two countries, as well as other cooperation programmes between Vietnamese and Russian partners.

The previous session of the Inter-Governmental Committee on Economic-Trade and Scientific-Technological Cooperation between Vietnam and Russia was held in Hanoi in October, 2013.
