Vietnam in Group D of 2020 AFC U23 Championship’s finals

Vietnam’s U23 football team will be in Group D of the 2020 AFC U23 Championship’ finals, together with the United Arab Emirates, Jordan and the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, following a draw held in Thailand on September 26.

The 2020 AFC U23 Championship’s final round is set to take place from January 8 to 26 next year across four stadiums in Thailand, with the participation of 16 teams.

The three best teams of the tournament, along with Japan, will represent Asia at the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games. If hosts Japan are among the winners, the fourth-placed team will earn the last Olympic spot.

Previously, Vietnam booked a ticket to compete in the 2020 AFC U23 Championship’s final as they topped their Group K qualifying round after a perfect record of three wins and 11 goals, while conceding none.

As the runners-up of the continental football tournament in 2018, Vietnam have been placed in the first pot of the draw along with defending champions Uzbekistan, third-place winners Qatar, and hosts Thailand.

Aside from Thailand, who automatically have a place as the hosts, Vietnam are the sole ASEAN representatives qualifying for the final.
