Vietnam air carriers raise surcharges

Vietnam air carriers have been applying multiple new regulations on surcharges since May 13, resulting in a rise in airfares.

Jetstar Pacific has announced that the airline will change the calculation of fees for checked baggage based on the distance traveled by flights. The plan came into force on May 13.

Accordingly, Jetstar Pacific passengers buying a luggage pass for 15 kilograms of weight on HCMC-Hanoi flights are now charged 200,000 dong, 40,000 dong higher than previously.

Another local low-cost carrier, Vietjet Air, has announced that fees to change the names of travelers on domestic flights will be raised to 374,000 dong from the current 340,000 dong, starting June 1.

Meanwhile, national flag carrier Vietnam Airlines will offer promotional tickets for international flights from May 20. These air tickets, however, will exclude the free 20 kilograms of weight for checked baggage and will not allow refunds, cancelations or flight time changes.

Earlier, the Ministry of Transport issued Circular No. 17/2019/TT-BGTVT regarding the issuance of the passenger transport service price frame on domestic flights. This Circular takes effect from July 1.
