Vietnam’s goalkeeper Dang Van Lam made the third most saves so far at the AFC Asian Cup 2019, according to Fox Sports Asia.

Lam made 16 saves in five matches as Vietnam made a fairytale run into the quarterfinals, with a good share of those saves coming against Japan in the quarterfinal.

Though Vietnam was defeated 0-1, Lam’s efforts earned him the man of the match award.

Ignatiy Nesterov from Uzbekistan topped the list with 21 saves in four matches, followed by Amer Shafi from Jordan with 20 saves in four matches.

Michael Falkesgaard from the Philippines and Mamed Orazmuhamedov of Turkmenistan were tied for fourth with 14 saves after three matches each.

The Russian-born Lam signed an agreement to move to Thai League giants Muangthong United shortly before the start of the tournament and showed he belongs to a higher level at Asia’s biggest football competition, according to the website.
