US left-wingers welcome Vietnam Party chief

New York, July 11 (VNA) – Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong met with US left-wingers in New York on July 9 (local time), who welcomed his “historical” official visit to the US.

Merle Ratner, on behalf of the US left-wingers at the event, said the meeting with the Vietnamese high-level delegation headed by the Party chief is a good opportunity for the two sides to tighten solidarity and mutual understanding.

The achievements the Vietnamese Party and people have gained over the past time are a vivid demonstration for the success of the Communist party with sound guideline and firm political spirit.

She confirmed the US left-wingers’ support to Vietnam.

For his part, General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong thanked the US friends for their assistance to Vietnam in the cause of national liberation, construction and defence.

He highly valued the US left-wingers’ practical deeds in supporting the Vietnamese Agent Orange (AO)/Dioxin victims and addressing the post-war consequences.

The development in the Vietnam-US relations is significantly contributed by US friends, he added.

He highlighted the situation in Vietnam after 30 years of “doi moi” (reform) and its path to socialism.

He asserted that the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) and Vietnamese people have always been pursuing the goal of national independence and socialism.
