Son La teachers brave dangerous paths to school

When the new school year starts, teachers in mountainous area of the northern Son La province have to traverse deep valleys and steep slopes to get to work. Despite these hardships, the love they have for their pupils and their extraordinary energy allow education to prosper.

After the floods in June and July, the roads to schools in Son La were heavily disfigured and became even rockier. But for the love and brave of these teachers, children in these remote areas would get the education they deserve.

After 10 years of teaching in mountainous areas, teacher Luong Thi Tan still shivers at the thought of passing these heavily eroded roads to get to school. The 10km road to Hoa Dao Preschool, Suoi Bau commune, Phu Yen district seems even longer and more affected by erosion and landslides.
