Online quizzes on Vietnamese sea, island knowledge launched in Hanoi

The Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union (HCYU)’s Central Committee on April 8 launched an online multiple-choice contest themed around Vietnamese seas and islands.

Vietnamese citizens, aged between 18 and 35, are eligible to take part in the quiz on the website https://biendaovietnam.org.vn/ and via the smart phone application Ereka at 1:30pm and 8:30pm everyday between April 8 and May 12.

Each test is scheduled to run for 15 minutes with 10 questions, with the maximum time to answer each question limited at 10 seconds.

The knowledge being tested revolves around features of Vietnamese seas and islands, their role in the nation’s socio-economic growth, as well as relevant laws on the management, protection, and sustainable development of marine resources and environment.

Each day of the contest, 10 candidates, who successfully answer all the 10 questions, will share a prize of 1 million VND (43 USD). Every week, the 10 best candidates will earn 1 million VND each.

After five weeks of the competition, there will be a first prize of 20 million VND, two second prizes of 8 million VND each, three third prizes of 3 million VND each, and 15 consolation prizes of 1 million VND each.

The municipal or provincial chapter of the HCYU with the highest number of participats in the contest will obtain a team prize of 20 million VND.

All prizes will be awarded via ViettelPay – a digital banking application developed by the Viettel Military Industry and Telecoms Group.

Vietnamese scientists unlock genetic insights into rare diseases

Prof. Dr. Nguyen Huy Hoang, Deputy Director of the Institute of Biology under the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology, and his research team conducted a project titled “Genetic mutation analysis in Vietnamese patients with selected rare diseases using whole-exome sequencing technology.” The project, implemented from 2022 to 2024, aims to clarify the genetic causes of these diseases within the Vietnamese population.
