Nightclub-goers must be over 18s

Nightclubs must be for over 18s only and close by 2am as part of a new Government decree covering karaoke bars and nightclubs that will take effect from September this year.

According to the decree, companies and business households must meet requirements regarding security and fire safety in accordance with regulations in Government Decree 96/2016/NĐ-CP on conditional businesses.

A karaoke room must have an area of  at least 20 sq.m not including a restroom. Latches, locks or alarm bells, except fire alarms, are not allowed in karaoke rooms.

A nightclub must have an area of 80 sq.m or more, not including a restroom, and must be at least 200 metres from schools, hospitals and religious or historical sites.

Karaoke clubs and clubs can only use songs that are legally allowed to be circulated; and images printed on music disks must align with Vietnamese culture, morality and traditional customs.

Staff working at karaoke clubs must wear suitable clothing and name tags with their photos.

Both karaoke establishments and nightclubs are required to comply with regulations including those on environmental protection, food safety, copyright, labour safety and social crime prevention and control.

Karaoke clubs can open 8am until midnight.

Among the ballots used at the congress were three featuring posters of President Ho Chi Minh and one bearing an image depicting the Vietnamese people engaged in production during the period of resistance against foreign aggression. The latter also carried the inscriptions “80th Anniversary of Vietnam’s National Day” and “33rd National Congress of the PCU".
