More than 400 athletes to compete in Vietnam Open Badminton Champs

More than 400 professional players from 26 nations and territories will compete in the Yonex – Sunrise Vietnam Open 2018 Badminton Championships in Ho Chi Minh City from August 7-12.

Speaking at a press conference to introduce the tournament on July 31, deputy head of the Vietnam Badminton Federation Nguyen Phuong Nam said the level of this year’s tournament will be upgraded from Grand Prix to World Tour Super 100, following the standards of the Badminton World Federation (BWF).

The players will compete in five categories, namely men’s and women’s singles, men’s and women’s doubles and mixed doubles, with total prize money of 75,000 USD available.

This tournament will feature several high-ranking players, including Brazil’s Ygor Coelho (world No.34), Malaysia’s Daren Liew (No.41) and Vietnam’s Nguyen Tien Minh (No.55) in the men’s singles, No.12 Savaka Takahashi from Japan in the women’s singles and duo Avako Sakuramoto and Yukiko Takahata in the women’s doubles (No.14).

The Yonex – Sunrise Vietnam Open is a prestigious tournament held annually in Vietnam. Its results are included in the BWF ranking system.

Vietnam, IAEA comprehensively assess national nuclear power infrastructure

The delegation, led by Eric Mathet, Operational Lead, the IAEA’s Nuclear Infrastructure Development Section, evaluated the current status of Vietnam’s national nuclear infrastructure according to the assessment criteria outlined by the IAEA for Stage 2 – assessing the readiness of a country to invite bids or negotiate contracts for the construction of its first nuclear power plant.
