HCM City continues to refurbish public bus fleet

The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transport has put 18 new compressed natural gas-fuelled (CNG) buses into service in addition to 39 new diesel buses to replace old ones.

The 51-seat CNG buses have been deployed on route 45 (District 8 – Ben Thanh – Mien Dong Station) replacing old diesel buses.

Fifteen of the new diesel buses, all 40-seaters, are being used on route 70 (Tan Quy – Ben Suc), and the rest, slightly larger, are in use on route 59 (District 8 – Nga Tu Ga).

The existing buses were around 10 years old.

This is part of the city’s extensive plans to encourage people to use public transportation.
