HCM City brings warm Tet to policy beneficiaries, poor people

The People’s Committee of Ho Chi Minh City plans to spend some 800 billion VND (34.5 million USD) on gifts to policy beneficiaries and impoverished households in the city as the Lunar New Year (Tet) 2019 nears.

To be more specific, people who rendered service to the nation, heroic Vietnamese mothers, war invalids and sick soldiers will receive presents worth from 1.7 million VND (73.22 USD) to 3.1 million VND (133,53 USD) each.

For 26,000 policy beneficiaries, each will receive 1.3 million VND (55.99 USD) in support while the amount for poor and near-poor families is 1.1 million VND (47.38 USD).

In addition, the financial assistance to people who live in social protection centres and the old aged 80 and above is 1.3 million VND each.

According to Director of the municipal Department of Labour, Invalid and Social Affairs Le Minh Tan, the city will present Tet gifts to ethnic minority people and religious organisations towards building a city in which no one is left behind.

The municipal People’s Committee has asked districts, agencies and businesses to ensure a warm Tet for local residents, as well as organise cultural, sport and entertainment activities on the occasion.

Dr Hung, from the Institute of Economics under the Russian Academy of Sciences and Vice President of the Union of Vietnamese Organisations in Russia, told the Vietnam News Agency (VNA) that the Party and State have consistently pursued policies to encourage and harness the significant potential of overseas Vietnamese through expanding consultation mechanisms, making socio-economic and cultural policies, and strengthening the great national unity bloc.
