Hanoi to host 2021 SEA Games

Hanoi, April 6 (VNA) - Hanoi has confirmed that it would host the 31st Southeast Asian (SEA) Games in 2021.

The host city does not have to build new facilities, but just needs to upgrade the available ones for the biennial competition.

“Hanoi hosted the 22nd Games in 2003 and the Asian Indoor Games in 2009. The city meets all demands for the 2021 SEA Games,” Vuong Bich Thang, head of the National Sports Administration, said.

The SEA Games are expected to have 30 sporting disciplines in November 2021. While most of events will be organised in Hanoi, some will be held in neighbouring cities and provinces such as Hai Phong, Hai Duong and Bac Ninh.

The total expenses for the Games are expected to be more than 1.700 billion VND (76 million USD).

The 29th SEA Games will be held in Malaysia next year, while the host of the 30th Games has not yet been named as the Philippines and Brunei are the two candidates.
