Exhibition opens at Hoa Lo Prison to mark President Ho Chi Minh’s birthday

An exhibition entitled “The Desire for Freedom” opened at Hoa Lo Prison in Hanoi on May 14 to mark the 130th birthday of President Ho Chi Minh (May 19).

The exhibition depicts the stories of soldiers who struggled to escape from French detention centres in the hope of returning to the revolutionary army.

It touches upon the suffering of the Vietnamese people under French colonial rule and the suppression of captives and their determination to break free.

Visitors on the opening day were able to meet historical witnesses and family members of veterans who took part in escapes.

Valuable documents and exhibits are also on display at the exhibition, which will run until the end of July.

A book on President Ho Chi Minh’s quotes has also been released to commemorate his birthday.

Compiled by Professor and Dr Nguyen Nhu Y and his associates, the work comprises nearly 5,000 quotes from the late President on Vietnam’s revolutionary cause and the morality and lifestyles of Party and State officials.

Meanwhile, a thematic display on President Ho opened on May 14 in the northern province of Hai Duong.

On display are some 300 documents, items, and images introducing his life and career as well as the province’s achievements in following his example./.
