Digital banking app ViettelPay wins APICTA award

Vietnam has for the first time won a gold medal at the 18th annual Asia Pacific Information Communication Technology Awards (APICTA) held recently in China.

The gold medal was presented to ViettelPay – a digital banking application developed by the Viettel Military Industry and Telecoms Group (Viettel) in the business service, finance and marketing category.

ViettelPay was officially launched in the market in June 2018 as part of the group’s plan to develop a digital payment and e-commerce ecosystem. Only four months after its launch, ViettelPay had more than 2 million users with 12,000 transactions nationwide supporting both smart phones and normal phones.

ViettelPay has gradually popularised electronic finance to help people in even rural and mountainous areas easily access financial services.

The APICTA ward 2018 has affirmed Viettel’s position in the electronic finance sector in the country together with its targets of developing the digital economy.

APICTA is an international awards programme to increase ICT awareness in the community and assist in bridging the digital gap. APICTA has been considered as the OSCAR award to honour outstanding ICT products and services from 16 member economies in the sector in the Asia Pacific region. This year’s event received entries of 15 participants with 351 products and services.
