Dak Nong official held for violating forest regulations

The People’s Procuracy in the Central Highlands province of Dak Nong approved an arrest warrant against Chairman of the People’s Committee of Truong Xuan commune, Pham Quoc Thuy.

Officials of the People’s Committee of Dak Song district also confirmed to the Vietnam News Agency that Thuy was apprehended for the violation of regulations on exploitation and management of forest products.

An initial investigation found that at the end of 2016, Thuy allowed a company to illegally log more than 0.5ha of pine forest in a protection forest along National Highway 14. More than 1,000 pine trees with a total volume of about 28cu.m had been cut.

Earlier this year, some 2ha of protection pine forest along the Ho Chi Minh Highway in the Truong Xuan commune had also been destroyed.

According to the People’s Committee of Dak Song district, chairman of the People’s Committee of Nam N’Jang commune, Nguyen Huu Tam, was also dismissed from his post last week after a large local forest area was damaged.
