Da Nang, WB sign new deal on strategic connectivity

Da Nang and the World Bank (WB) signed a memorandum of understanding on strategic connectivity in the 2019-2025 periodon September 6 in the central city.

The signing ceremony drew WB Director in Vietnam Ousmane Dione, Chairman of the Da Nang People’s Committee Huynh Duc Tho, and leaders of local departments and agencies.

Addressing the event, the WB Director said that the bank has started engaging in projects in Da Nang since 1994 with 34 projects implemented so far.

Funding packages worth 500 million USD have been poured into infrastructure and social security projects in Da Nang, which will be continued in the future, he said.

After 25 years of cooperation, the new signing is another evidence affirming the long-term partnership between the two sides, he added.

The official also pledged that the WB will continue accompanying with Da Nang during its efforts to reach the world. The bank wishes to help turn Da Nang into a typical city of the central region and Vietnam in general, he said. However, he urged the city to continue focusing on develop science-technology, education and invest more in the youth in order for sustainable growth in the future.

Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee Tho highly valued the cooperation and support that the WB has given to Da Nang over the past 25 years.

The partnership between the bank and the city has been broadened from infrastructure to multi-sectoral approach, requiring stronger collaboration for higher efficiency and sustainable development, he noted.

Tho expressed his hope that the signed deals will be specified into actions to meet the WB’s trust in the city.
