Asian Women’s Beach Volleyball Championship kicks off

The Asian Volleyball Confederation (AVC) Women’s Beach Volleyball Championship kicked off in the Mekong Delta city of Can Tho on April 20.

The event saw the participation of 36 players in 18 teams from 10 countries and territories. Among them, the host country of Vietnam has three teams to the four-day event, Australia, Hong Kong (China), Indonesia, Japan, New Zealand and Thailand have two teams each, while Kazakhstan, Singapore and Malaysia send one team each.

The total prize money on offer at the tournament is 12,000 USD, with the winner pocketing 2,600 USD, the runner-up receiving 2,000 USD and the third bagging 1,600 USD.

Pham Van Luan, Vice Director of the Can Tho Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism and deputy head of the organising board, said that the AVC Women’s Beach Volleyball Championship is part of a point-scoring system for the players.

After the opening ceremony, there was a match between Vietnam 1 and Malaysia, with the game finishing in a 2-0 victory for the Vietnamese team.

Among the ballots used at the congress were three featuring posters of President Ho Chi Minh and one bearing an image depicting the Vietnamese people engaged in production during the period of resistance against foreign aggression. The latter also carried the inscriptions “80th Anniversary of Vietnam’s National Day” and “33rd National Congress of the PCU".
